Mount Vernon High School students are honored for the ways they show leadership, responsibility, growth, and commitment every day.
Jordan Anderson was nominated by Nyssa Luckey. Jordan Anderson, a tenth grader, “truly embodies our pillar of Building Community through her kindness, leadership, and commitment to supporting others at MVHS.” Jordan “serves as a student helper in the Guidance Office, where she consistently goes above and beyond to assist both school counselors and students.” She is “also a dedicated participant in Big Sibs, demonstrating responsibility and care while mentoring a middle school student.” Jordan is “always willing to step into leadership roles that benefit the greater good of our school community,” and her “positive attitude and reliability make a meaningful impact each day.” She is “a positive role model and a true asset to MVHS.”
Samantha Pollack was nominated by Mrs. Franz. Samantha Pollack “consistently arrives prepared and ready to learn (even bright and early in the morning).” She “puts forth her best effort on every assignment and willingly helps her peers better understand the content.” Samantha “remains actively engaged during lessons and offers thoughtful insight when asked.”
Kendall Hinkens was nominated by Mrs. Hofferberth. Kendall Hinkens “exemplifies what it means to Embrace Growth and Take Ownership of her learning.” In chemistry, “she has a great attitude toward learning.” Kendall “asks questions, is proactive about asking for extra practice before tests and quizzes, and when she misses a question she comes to see me to figure it out so that she is confident moving forward.”
Briggs Swallow was nominated by Clay Tocheff. Briggs Swallow “is very responsible and always applies himself fully in everything we do in class.” He “is also very respectful and models exemplary student behavior.”
Winnie Chen was nominated by Jen Ensminger. “Any student entering a school in the United States from another country faces a myriad of challenges.” Since entering MVCSD in seventh grade, Winnie Chen “has faced these challenges head-on, persevering in academics and social settings with a quiet determination.” Winnie “has shown consistent growth in her English language proficiency while maintaining excellent grades in each of her classes.” When working with others, “Winnie is an active participant, always giving 100 percent effort.” She “is considerate and inclusive, willing to partner with anyone and inviting people into her group.” Winnie “is a skillful writer and enjoys crafting creative essays in her native language.” She “is a growing writer in English and enjoys expressing herself and her personality through the written word.” Winnie “embodies the pillar of embracing growth for the dedicated work she has put into learning English while successfully completing her academic work in two languages.” She has “completely embrac[ed] life as a student and community member, with positivity and perseverance.”
Cadence Jones was nominated by Anthony Springer. Cadence Jones “is always ready to learn in orchestra and guitar class.” This month, “she took on the challenge of learning 2 ensembles, outside of class, that went on to earn superior ratings at Solo & Ensemble!”
Ethan Pursel was nominated by Clayton R. Tocheff. Ethan Pursel “is very disciplined and hardworking.” He “shows a genuine desire to learn and is very respectful.”
Mason Wissinger was nominated by Mason Wissinger. Mason Wissinger “takes ownership of his academic success, and is committed to excellence as a writer.” He “quietly leads our class not just as a writer, but also as a critical thinker of what we read.”
Alanis Taylor was nominated by Mrs, Wihl. “Alanis has been on fire this year. She started the year with the goal of getting her STNA which she has achieved. She works numerous hours at Country Club Manor and loves working with her patients. She has been achieving high grades in her classes even while she works many hours and tool the STNA training classes. She knew what she wanted to on to college but didn’t have the confidence at first to apply. She applied to Akron and got accepted and she plans to continue her education with the Criminal Justice program. She has done all of it with a positive and pleasant attitude. She definitely deserves to be acknowledge as Student of the Month!
Blake Gill was nominated by Mrs. Plumley. Blake was nominated because of his effort and attitude in class. He does his work willingly and with pride. He is eager to learn whatever topic we are covering for the day and has fun with the content and asks great questions. Blake is an excellent student!
