The first high school publication on record was printed in 1898. The senior class of that year published two papers entitled “The Tattler” which contained lengthy descriptions of students’ trips and articles of the business and political situations in the country. No more publications appeared until 1905, when the booklet, “Forum” contained many literary works, some sports news, and a few jokes. The first yearbook appeared that year as well. It was known as the HI-Log, (“HI” was the popular abbreviation for high school; “Log” came from a ship’s log of the ship’s history). This was the first publication that contained individual pictures of seniors, groups, and group pictures of underclassmen, pictures of sports teams, organizations, and candid’s of students. The first actual yearbook, entitled the “Forum” was published in 1923 and has been published every year since, except 1930, 1932, and 1933 due to the Great Depression.
