Turning a Dream into Reality – The Joe and Krys Mortellaro Golf Room Opens

Additional photos will be posted from Natalie Boggs on the story. Stay tuned

Five years ago, the idea of having a dedicated golf room equipped with indoor golf simulators at the high school seemed like a distant dream. Fast forward to today, and the dream has become a reality with the official opening of the Joe and Krys Mortellaro Golf Room.

This extraordinary facility is a testament to the community’s passion for golf and their commitment to providing unique opportunities for high school athletes. The journey of the Mortellaro Golf Lab began when the high school was in the process of constructing a new field house. The question arose: How could the school repurpose an old weight room that was rendered obsolete by the new facility? The answer came in the form of a golf room equipped with indoor simulators.

The vision started taking shape, and five years later, it blossomed into a state-of-the-art facility. The realization of this dream wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of the community. Head coach Anthony Savage expressed his gratitude, stating, “It started to become a reality at the end of the fall, and it all came together pretty quickly.”

The community rallied together, donating funds to bring this unique program to fruition. Their dedication underscored the importance of providing students with opportunities beyond traditional sports.

The Joe and Krys Mortellaro Golf Lab is not just your average indoor golf space; it’s a one-of-a-kind facility designed to enhance the golfing experience for high school athletes. Spanning an impressive 2400 square feet, the room boasts features that set it apart from the rest. Two Trackman Launch Monitors/Simulators, two hitting bays with projectors, and three different turf surfaces create an immersive environment for golf enthusiasts.

The turf surfaces replicate various course conditions, including fairway, rough, and green, allowing players to practice and refine their skills in different scenarios. Additionally, the room is equipped with ten in-ground holes for chipping and putting practice, providing a comprehensive training experience. To enhance the overall experience, three flat-screen TVs serve as displays and scoreboards, ensuring that players can track their progress and engage in friendly competitions.

The Joe and Krys Mortellaro Golf Lab is not just a training facility; it is a space that fosters camaraderie, competition, and a genuine love for the game. The journey from a mere dream to the grand opening of The Joe and Krys Mortellaro Golf Lab is a testament to the power of community support and the determination to provide unique opportunities for high school athletes.

This facility not only reflects the school’s commitment to fostering diverse interests but also showcases the passion and dedication of the community to make dreams come true. As The Joe and Krys Mortellaro Golf Lab officially opens its doors, it stands as a symbol of collaboration, innovation, and the pursuit of excellence in high school athletics.
