Jackson Barrett at this year’s first JJ Pick
Jackson Barrett’s performance in Shrek Jr. makes his Senior year shine and was chosen for our JJ Pick this week.
Jackson’s dedication to school and writing leads him to continue his work after high school. “ I want to go to college and major in English to become a freelance writer and teacher,” he says. As well as excellence in the high school building, he also shines in a college environment. “I’m taking college writing and creative writing at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.” He has been a part of the chess club, gaming club, as well as MTV News, the Mount Vernon News broadcast. This summer, Jackson will be doing a writing program at The Ohio State University. When asked about his favorite school memory, he explained, “Seventh grade was my favorite year because of teachers Mr. Kane and Mrs. Sivewright. This was the time where I liked learning because of the teachers.” His connections with his teachers and his academics support his plans for after graduation. His advice for future graduates is to “Do what you love, be confident in yourself, even if you’re good at something you can always improve.”
