Pleasant Street Sign Language Club Meets on the Weekdays

Pleasant Street Elementary School started a sign language club to assist hearing impaired students. Began by a first grader with a sister who has progressive hearing issues, the program runs bi weekly and an average 15 elementary students attend. Each session students learn different words and practice talking in groups with the new material they have learned. Jacket Journal had the opportunity to spend an afternoon with the students while they were learning basic phrases and the alphabet. The club started the first of February and the goal is to continue the program throughout the next four years with the hopes of moving this program into the Middle School.
