The Mount Vernon Choir, Band, and Orchestra had great success performing this past Saturdaya, January 28, at the OMEA Solo and Ensemble event hosted at Granville High School. 

     This concert is an opportunity for students to perform in front of an adjudicator and receive feedback.

      Once finished,  students are given a 1-5 based on the quality of their performance. 

     Junior McKinley Figurski  scored an excellent (2) after performing a class A solo in Italian and stated, “For the choir, it was a very successful day at Solo and Ensemble,” said Figurski. 

     Senior Auralie Yoder scored a superior (1) for her class A piece “Amarilli Mia Bella” by Giulio Caccini.  After she received her score, Yoder could not contain her excitement. “It caused lots of jumping up and down since it was the first and only time I was doing solo and ensemble.” 

     The choir ended the day with eight superior and three excellent ratings. The Orchestra also performed very well, sophomore Christopher Hawthorne performed a class A piano solo and scored an excellent (2). 

     Hawthorne will also be performing the Finale of Brent Edstorm Jazz Concerto for piano and orchestra next Saturday, February 11, with the Knox County Symphony. 

    Senior Emily Springer performed in three class A events, a quartet, a duet and a solo. She played the violin with the MVHS Symphonic Orchestra and the MVHS String Quartet. The quartet and duet received an excellent (2) and the solo received a superior (1).  “It was great being able to watch and perform with so many other amazing musicians, and I’m very proud of the work our music program has put in to create such talented artists,”said Springer.
