The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets appeared poised for a statement win Friday night, jumping out to a fast start against longtime rivals, the Pacers. Mount Vernon scored on its opening drive and controlled the pace throughout the first half, taking a commanding 20-7 lead into the break.
But the second half belonged entirely to the Pacers.
Making key halftime adjustments on both sides of the ball, the Pacers shut down the Yellow Jackets’ previously high-powered offense and mounted a furious comeback. Led by a resurgent passing attack and a dominant defense, the Pacers erased the two-possession deficit and ultimately surged ahead late in the fourth quarter.
When the final whistle blew, it was the Pacers who emerged victorious, 41-34 — a stunning reversal that left Mount Vernon searching for answers after a dominant first half.
