This year, the Mount Vernon High School Class of 2026 is kicking off a brand-new tradition that lets seniors showcase their creativity in a bold and colorful way — by painting their very own parking spots!
For the first time ever, senior students will have the opportunity to personalize a spot in the senior parking lot with a design of their choice. The event is more than just fun — it’s a fundraiser, too. All proceeds from the parking spot sales will go toward the senior class fund, helping support senior activities and events.
But before you grab your paintbrushes, here’s what you need to know.
How It Works
Students interested in painting a spot must submit a completed application, a $25 payment (cash or check made out to Mount Vernon High School), and proof of at least 5 hours of community service. If you’re already in Key Club, NHS, or have completed volunteer work elsewhere, those hours count — just be sure to submit the required form.
Applications open on September 2nd and are due by September 12th. Turn in all paperwork and payments to the high school office. After submitting, students will be able to select an available spot from the two center rows in the senior lot. If demand is high, more spots will be added. Applications will be in the office after school on Tuesday, September 2nd.
Painting Days
Once your design is approved, it’s time to paint! The official painting days are:
-
September 21st from 4:00–9:00 PM
-
September 22nd from 12:00–4:00 PM
Students are responsible for bringing their own water-based exterior latex paint, brushes, rollers, and any cleaning supplies. Spray paint and fluorescent or reflective paints are not allowed. Also, make sure your design includes a 4-inch unpainted border around the parking lines.
Helpful tip: It takes about a gallon of paint to cover an entire space, so consider teaming up with friends to share supplies.
Design Guidelines
All designs must be appropriate for school. Any artwork featuring offensive language, images, or symbols will be denied, and refunds will not be issued. Once your design is approved, it’s yours for the year — so no parking in someone else’s masterpiece!
At the end of the school year, all students who painted a spot will be required to repaint it black to prepare for next year’s seniors. The repainting window will be announced later.
Let’s Make It Last
This new tradition is an exciting way to express your Jacket pride and leave your mark — literally — on MVHS. But it only works if everyone treats it with respect. Follow the rules, be responsible, and most importantly, have fun!
