On April 22, 2025, Mount Vernon High School hosted a heartwarming Senior Lunch in the gymnasium, where seniors and National Honor Society (NHS) students came together to share a meal and reminisce. The NHS students not only served lunch but also joined the seniors to swap stories and reflect on their high school days.
Jack Neibarger, a senior at the event, shared that one of his favorite parts of the lunch is “coming back to the school and seeing how it’s changed.” He added that he especially enjoys “the food and talking to old friends.”
Many seniors echoed similar sentiments, reminiscing about their favorite high school memories, particularly the camaraderie of being surrounded by friends and cheering on the school’s sports teams.
Christopher Hawthorne, an NHS student, reflected on his two years of participation, saying, “What I love most is talking to the seniors and serving the alumni who were here before me.”
After lunch, the group moved to the theater, where they were treated to performances from the 2025 Forum Show, which included singing, dancing, and a scene from the drama club’s rendition of Little Women. NHS officers also introduced themselves, sharing their time with the organization and their future college plans.
Superintendent Bill Seder, who has been instrumental in organizing the event for the past 12 years, spoke about the significance of the gathering: “There’s a special connection between the senior citizens and the students at our high school. Being able to sit down together over lunch and share experiences from both the past and present is something really meaningful. We’ve been doing this for 12 years now, and it’s a wonderful way to bridge the gap between the generations.”
For Linda Doup, a senior attendee, the memories of high school that stand out most are “Being with all my friends and cheerleading for Mount Vernon.”
