Mount Vernon, Ohio has many restaurants to sit down and enjoy a meal with friends and family, but none truly compare to Bickerdyke, located next to the Woodward Opera House on Main Street. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to sit down in the main dining room since they open at 5 pm, but I was able to enjoy the same food in the bar area of the restaurant. The waitresses that I had the pleasure of interacting with were welcoming, lighthearted, and humorous during my visit.
The food was next-level, and the service was very quick. I ordered the Bickerdyke Burger with the typical side of fries, and – while a bit messy – the burger was one of the most juicy, delicious burgers I have ever eaten. Their “special sauce” is incredibly tasty. Now, I don’t know what seasoning is on their fries, but they are without a doubt the most flavorful, perfectly fried fries I have had the pleasure of eating. The only negative that I had about my meal was the dipping sauce that came with the fries; it was a garlic aioli. It was just a tad too garlic-y for me, but that’s just a personal preference.
The atmosphere inside the bar was incredibly welcoming and comforting; there were TVs with sports games playing, tables full of other customers chatting amongst themselves and with the waitress, and the overall decor of the restaurant was beautiful and well-thought out. In this article, there will be pictures of the bar, the food, the glassware, and some of the decor I found the most noteworthy.
If you’re turning your mind around for a place to sit down and eat with your friends, family, or coworkers, Bickerdyke is the perfect place to have a meal and feel welcomed, no matter what you’re there for.
