Senior Natasha Jose has been selected to represent Mount Vernon High School in the Knox County Symphony. Her hours in the Knox County Symphony, time spent in the Mount Vernon High School Orchestra, and year of private lessons with Mr. Japikse have paid off for the talented young musician.
Last month, she won the Young Musicians Concerto, hosted by the Knox County Symphony. On September 30th, Natasha learned that she had earned an opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Knox County Symphony, as well as a $125 prize.
The audition process for this award was rigorous. At the recommendation of orchestra director Anthony Springer, Natasha had to first submit an “intent to apply” form. For her audition, she performed Czardas by V. Monti on the violin.
“I was really nervous!” said Jose of her feelings about the audition. After waiting for the judges’ deliberation, Jose was pleased to learn that she had won.
With the abundant preparation time, Jose hopes to continue to improve in order to be at her best by the time of the performance on Feb 10. The young musician’s soloist performance will be in Rosse Hall at Kenyon College.
This will not be the end of Jose’s musical career, however. When asked if she saw a future for herself playing the violin, she said, “I plan on still playing with them after I graduate. Next year, I hope to audition in the collegiate division of the competition!”
While this is a very exciting opportunity for Jose, it is only the beginning of many musical endeavors. The future is bright for Natasha!
